Frequently Asked QuestionsOn this page we address the most frequently asked questions regarding our hosting service. As always, if you have a question not touched on here, just
contact us directly.
Q: How long has Code18 been in business?
A: Code18 first set up shop in April of 2000, offering custom web development and graphic design services. We added our web hosting services in October of 2002.
Q: Do I need a credit card to sign up?
A: No, but a credit card is the recommended form of payment. We accept Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. If you do not have or do not wish to use a credit card, you may also use a Visa or MasterCard branded debit card. We can also set up your account through PayPal -- simply skip the credit card section on the sign up form, and put a note in the "comments" field indicating your desire to use PayPal. We will be glad to set that up for you.
Q: Is a long-term contract required? What about set-up fees?
A: We do not require a contract at all -- you are free to cancel at any time. Also, we do not charge any set-up or cancellation fees whatsoever. Beyond that, your first week with Code18 Hosting is free, so you really are able to try out our service entirely without risk -- no strings attached. If you don't like hosting with us for any reason, simply cancel within the first week and you will never be billed a penny.
Q: Can you register my domain for me?
A: No, we are not a registrar. We recommend GoDaddy, but you can register your domain with any registrar you choose.
Q: I'm getting an error message when I try to access your sign-up form. What should I do?
A: To protect your sensitive billing information, we use the latest 128-bit encryption standards. This high level of data encryption is not compatible with some older, out-of-date web browsers. We suggest you upgrade to the latest version of Firefox or Safari to ensure safer, more secure web browsing.
Q: Do I have to live in the US to sign up for Code18 Hosting?
A: No, but your site must comply with all US laws, as well as all other terms set forth in our Terms of Service.
Q: Can you host domains that do not end in .com?
A: Yes -- we can host sites under any top level domain: .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, whatever.
Q: What happens if I exceed my bandwidth allowance?
A: You will receive an email alerting you to the overage, but your site will not automatically be suspended. Nobody wants their site to go down just when it starts catching on! Depending on the circumstances of the overage, you may wish to upgrade your hosting package. We will be happy to discuss your options at any time in order to adjust with your needs as they change.
Q: How come there is no photo of a foxy headset-wearing, thirtysomething Time-Life Operator on your website?
A: Hate to break it to you, but such a woman does not exist, even though you see stock photos of her on practically every other hosting company's website. Like we said -- we're a little bit different.
